About the Features

Each M/C Reviews feature section is a themed group of reviews centring ona particular cultural event, category, or genre. In line with M/C Reviews'general rationale that the diverse productions of media and culture demanda more comprehensive type of review forum than other fields, the aim ofthe feature sections is to provide a space for reflecting upon keycultural phenomena in their various aspects and from different angles, sometimes conflicting ones. This breaks through the normal drawback ofreviews -- i.e. that they usually come in ones and present monologicalvisions. The whole concept arises from the unique characteristics ofelectronic publishing -- its short production cycles and abundance ofpublication space allow plural and timely treatments of relevant issues.

ENERGEX Brisbane Festival 2000
Edited by Felicity Meakins

The Energex Brisbane Festival is just one of many festivals crowding Brisbane's cultural calendar at the end of this year. This festival showcases Brisbane as an arts centre able to attract international performers and companies, and produce world class artists of its own. Local companies such as Zen Zen Zo, the Queensland Ballet, the Queensland Theatre Company and Expressions Dance Comnpany will perform along side of revered international acts such as the Roby Lakatos Ensemble, the Israeli Dance Company and Maxim Vengerov. And with plenty of free entertainment about the city (including the amazing Legs on the Wall), this festival promises to take the performing arts off the stage and onto the streets.

This feature is the first of M/C Reviews' continuous features. Each day, new reviews and interviews with artists will appear as the festival marches on. A team of reviewers will keep you up to date with festival performances as they premier, so keep logging on for new information about what's on and exciting. If you see something interesting and wish to review or comment on it, please send contributions to the usual place.
